I've finished reading 'Now you're one of us' by Asa Nonami. It's under the Mystery/Horror genre but I feel that it's more Mystery.
The story opens with Noriko marrying into the SHITO family of eight. Everyone in the family is constantly smiling/happy and trying their best to please Noriko (shouldn't it be the opposite?). They grow these weird plants and the death of a neighbour sets Noriko thinking that the SHITOs killed their neighbour and that the family is not what it seems to be. Things get weirder and weirder with the 97 year old great-grandmother with withered legs walking like it's the most normal thing to do and the family(excluding Noriko) having these midnight meetings.
The development of the story is rather slow paced in the beginning but things start to pick up fast towards the end. The weird actions of the family members were explained in a totally far-fetched manner and it got me thinking that maybe a more close to reality ending will leave me more satisfied.
Talk about bloodlines.Labels: Asa Nonami, books, Now you're one of us, review
